Privacy Policy — DoTree (iOS, iPadOS and Mac app)

Last updated: August 2026 · This version is intended for publication as a public URL (App Store requirement). DoTree was formerly called TaskCompass; this policy applies unchanged to both names.

Summary

DoTree does not collect, gather or transmit any personal data to the provider or to third parties. There are no accounts, no advertising, no analytics, no trackers and no provider-operated server.

Data storage

All content (tasks, folders, projects, contexts, notes, attachments) is created by you and stored locally on your device (iOS Data Protection).

iCloud sync (optional)

If you enable synchronisation, Apple stores your content encrypted in your private iCloud (CloudKit private database). Only your Apple ID has access; the provider cannot read your content. With Apple’s “Advanced Data Protection” it is end-to-end encrypted. Apple’s privacy policy (iCloud) applies in addition. You can switch synchronisation off at any time in the app (Settings → iCloud Sync).

Reminders & Calendar (optional)

On your explicit action, DoTree creates reminders in Apple’s Reminders app (list “DoTree”) and keeps their completion status in sync, or adds task time ranges to a dedicated “DoTree” calendar. Both require your permission (iOS authorisation) and remain entirely on your device or within your Apple services.

Camera, microphone, photo library (optional)

Access happens solely for content you create yourself: attachments you add to a task (taking a photo, recording an audio note, choosing an image or video) and voice capture (see below). Nothing is transmitted to the provider or to third parties.

Voice capture / dictation (optional)

When you dictate a task, DoTree records through the microphone and converts what you said into text. By default this happens entirely on your device — the recording never leaves it. Turning that text into a task outline also runs on the device (Apple Intelligence, or a rule-based method, depending on your hardware).

In Settings you can switch the conversion to Apple’s speech recognition service instead (Settings → “Transcription via Apple servers”). This option is off by default; if you enable it, Apple transmits the recording to its servers for conversion, and Apple’s privacy policy applies in addition. Nothing is ever transmitted to the provider of this app.

MLO import (optional)

When importing a MyLifeOrganized XML file, the file is read locally only and merged into your task structure.

Your rights (GDPR)

Data portability: a complete export is available in the app at any time (Settings → Backup). Erasure: delete individual items, or remove the app; iCloud data can be deleted via your iCloud settings. Since no data is transmitted to the provider, the provider holds no personal data about you; requests for access or erasure therefore have nothing to act upon — your data is yours alone.
